70+ combined years of direct field experience.
Not a content farm. Not an AI-built thin site. Two real experts, one shared obsession: giving you the number that actually applies to your situation.
Browse all calculators →FigureNerd is built by two founding partners with more than 70 combined years of direct field experience. One partner spent more than 40 years in CEO operations, small business management, real estate, asset protection, and personal finance. The other has more than 30 years in HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical systems, the kind of hands-on trade background that catches a wrong answer a textbook formula alone would miss.
That combination is the reason the site exists. Freelancers, self-employed professionals, small business owners, and trades operators come here with one specific number they need: what to charge, how much cooling a house actually needs in a given climate zone, whether an S-corp election is worth it this year. Plenty of calculator sites hand back a generic formula and call it done. We built FigureNerd to get closer than that, and to say plainly where a number depends on your own situation.
Every calculator goes through the same four-layer process before it ships. First, we look at how existing tools on the same topic handle it, and note where they fall short, usually a missing regional adjustment or an edge case left out. Second, we pull the authoritative source for that topic, IRS publications, ACCA Manual J, ASHRAE standards, Fannie Mae guidelines, EPA rules, whichever applies, and read the primary document rather than a summary of it. Third, we build the formula and its documentation side by side, with sources named and the math shown. Fourth, the partner with hands-on experience in that specific domain reviews the values before the calculator goes live.
A result is only as good as what you put in, and the rates behind it change. Tax brackets, conforming loan limits, and refrigerant rules move every year, and we update the affected calculators when they do, with a "last reviewed" date on the page. The full four-layer process, along with the specific primary source cited per topic, is on our Methodology page.
A few calculators link to a partner, a business formation service or a lender, where that partner's product genuinely fits the result you just got. When that happens, we may earn a commission if you sign up or buy through that link. That relationship does not change the number the calculator hands you, and it does not decide which calculators we build next. We disclose it on the page where it applies, not buried only in a footer.
FigureNerd runs more than 50 free calculators today, with new ones shipping regularly. No signup, no email required to use any of them.
